Zhiheng News | Zhiheng Longhua Community Public Welfare Lecture The first phase of 2026 was successfully held

To enhance the legal awareness of community residents, help them plan for their later years in advance, and safeguard their legitimate rights and interests, on June 28, 2025, Guangdong Zhiheng (Longhua) Law Firm (hereinafter referred to as “Zhiheng Longhua”), in collaboration with the Minzhi Subdistrict Judicial Office, successfully held the first session of the Zhiheng Longhua Community Public Lecture Series for 2026 in Minkang Community.

This event was organized by the Zhiheng Longhua Marriage, Family Law, and Wealth Preservation Group and drew numerous community residents to attend.

Attorney Lei Shuai, under the title “Guardianship Can Also Be Designated by You,” introduced Article 33 of the Civil Code concerning designated guardianship, emphasizing that individuals can, while of sound mind, designate in writing a trusted guardian to exercise relevant rights on their behalf when they become incapacitated; such designation takes precedence over statutory guardianship. He also cited relevant cases to emphasize that “actions must be taken only when fully sober” is the core red line, and explained how lawyers can assist in establishing oversight mechanisms—such as appointing supervisors and stipulating veto rights for major matters—to ensure that guardians perform their duties in accordance with the law.

Attorney Zhou Zefang focuses on common misconceptions in the field of inheritance. Relying on relevant provisions of the Civil Code, he has clarified key issues such as the validity of oral wills, the order of statutory succession, principles for debt repayment, the nature of special types of property, and statutes of limitations, while urging residents to prioritize the legality and forward-looking nature of their inheritance planning.

Conclusion

This event was jointly organized by Zhiheng Longhua and the Minzhi Subdistrict Judicial Office. Through face-to-face consultations between lawyers and residents, legal knowledge—such as on advance care planning—was effectively disseminated, addressing the practical concerns of groups facing challenges in the context of an aging population, including those living alone or in empty-nest households. In the future, the Zhiheng Longhua Marriage, Family Law, and Wealth Succession Team will continue to leverage its professional expertise, conduct a series of public legal education activities in local communities, and use the power of the rule of law to safeguard the people’s good lives.
