The second trial in the Lao Rongzhi case lasted three days, with the verdict to be announced on a date to be determined.
Three years ago, Lao Rongzhi, who was suspected of being responsible for seven deaths and had been on the run for 20 years, was apprehended, sending shockwaves throughout the nation.
On September 9, 2021, the Nanchang Intermediate People’s Court of Jiangxi Province delivered a first-instance public verdict, sentencing Lao Rongzhi to death for suspected intentional homicide, robbery, and kidnapping. Lao Rongzhi disagrees with the verdict and has filed an appeal in court.
8 From 9:30 a.m. on the 18th to 6:30 p.m. on the 20th, the Jiangxi Provincial Higher People’s Court conducted a public trial in accordance with the law of the appeal case involving Lao Rongzhi for intentional homicide, robbery, and kidnapping.
RegardingLao Rongzhi’s second trial lasted three days, one day longer than the first trial. The prosecution and the defense engaged in heated arguments, and the panel of judges mediated on multiple occasions.During today’s court session, Lao Rongzhi recanted her previous statements. She denied the charge of intentional homicide and argued that her acts of kidnapping and robbery were also committed under coercion by Fa Ziying; she claimed she had not conspired in these crimes, was not a principal offender, but rather an accomplice coerced into participation.
She also emphasized that she is 48 years old and has never undergone plastic surgery, while denying that she and Fa Ziying were in a romantic relationship. She thinks that because she graduated from a teachers’ college and is a primary school teacher, she’s a “naive, innocent, and sweet” person...
The Jiangxi High People’s Court ultimately decided to set a date for the pronouncement of the judgment.

Wuhan, Hubei: A woman from Wuhan, born in 1995, has revealed that she invested a million yuan in her rural hometown to cultivate 1,000 mu of pumpkins, only to have them repeatedly stolen by nearby villagers. The thieves are mostly elderly people aged between 60 and 70, and when caught, they claim to be suffering from various ailments.

Illustrations are the second language of textbooks; the lower the grade level, the more illustrations there are. Mr. Ye Shengtao once said, “Good illustrations in a text can enhance its appeal to readers, deepen their impressions, and help them understand the content more clearly; they are by no means mere optional embellishments.” As a result, in May of this year, the “ugly illustration incident” involving the People’s Education Press’s primary school mathematics textbooks drew widespread attention from netizens.
On August 22, the official WeChat account of the People’s Education Press announced that, in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Education, the press has completed the redrawing of illustrations for primary school mathematics textbooks. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has released a notice on the investigation and handling of issues related to the illustrations in the primary school mathematics textbooks published by the People’s Education Press.
The notice states that appropriate disciplinary measures have been taken against the illustrators and designers, and Wu Yong, as well as cover designers Lü Min and Lü Jingren and their studios, will no longer be engaged in national textbook design, illustration work, or related tasks. Supreme People’s Court, No. 1 Civil Division: Four Opinions on Double Wages
On February 21, 2022, the Supreme People's Court and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security jointly issued the "Opinions on Relevant Issues Concerning the Coordination between Labor and Personnel Dispute Arbitration and Litigation (I)" (Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security Document No. 9 [2022]). Article 20 stipulates that if an employer fails to conclude a written employment contract with a worker within one year from the date of employment, it shall be deemed that a contract of indefinite duration has been concluded with the worker as of the day one year has elapsed since the commencement of employment.
Where the circumstances set forth in the preceding paragraph exist, if a worker requests the employer to pay double wages for the period commencing one year after the date of employment on the ground that no written employment contract has been concluded, the Labor and Personnel Dispute Arbitration Commission and the People’s Courts shall not support such a claim.
