#Car parked in a parking space thrown into the river#
At around 11:00 PM on November 19, 2022, the Jinshan Police Station of the Fuzhou Public Security Bureau received a report from a member of the public stating that their vehicle, parked in the underground garage of a residential complex in Cangshan District, had been thrown into a river. Authorities immediately launched an investigation.
Subsequently, the police reported that the caller, Chen Mougen (male, 35, from Fuzhou), had occupied Lin Moukai’s (male, 47, from Fuzhou) parking space in the underground garage at around 5:00 p.m. on November 18. At around 10:00 p.m. on November 19, after being unable to contact Chen Mougeng, Lin Moukai hired Gong Mouqiang (male, 38 years old, from Sichuan) to use a forklift to lift and remove Chen’s vehicle, then dump it into the river.
According to the explanation provided by the community staff, both vehicles have designated parking spaces in the community’s garage. The owner whose car was thrown into the river had indeed parked it in another resident’s private parking space at the time.
With the increasing prevalence of private cars, reports of private parking spaces being occupied are becoming increasingly common, and many car owners have even experienced having their parking spots taken. Many netizens have expressed feeling “rightly sympathetic” after this incident came to light, as they too have experienced the frustration of having their privately purchased parking space occupied, being unable to reach the owner of the illegally parked car, and consequently having nowhere to park their own vehicle.
However, it is evident that the behavior of Lin, the parking-space owner involved in this incident, was indeed overly aggressive and also violated relevant legal provisions. At present, according to a notice from the Cangshan Branch of the Fuzhou Public Security Bureau, the owner of the parking space involved has been placed under criminal coercive measures in accordance with the law, and the forklift driver has been apprehended. The case is currently under further investigation.
